Paedophile Kane Hutchison has been jailed again for breaching his foreign travel rules after changing his name.

Former football coach Hutchison was nicknamed the ‘Beast of Bensham’ after he was jailed for four years in 2015 for targeting two teenage boys over the internet and inciting them into sexual activity online.

And now the sex predator has been convicted of failing to comply with foreign travel notification requirements imposed following his conviction.

Now using the name Mason Maxwell, Hutchison was found guilty of the new offences at Manchester Crown Court last week.

The court heard how the requirements had been imposed following his 2015 conviction of two counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

The Chronicle reported at the time how Hutchison, who is originally from Gateshead, exploited his young victims’ interest in football to target them.

A former family friend told how he would falsely claim to be associated with the Newcastle Gremlins hooligan firm to either impress or intimidate vulnerable young people.

And the coach would also brag of links with agents and offer youngsters the hope of a soccer career to lure them under his control.

When he was convicted of the 2015 offences he was already behind bars having been jailed for three years for sexually assaulting a 13-year-old boy after offering to take him to watch a football match.

Greater Manchester Police say Hutchison, who was known to them as Maxwell, was charged with four counts of failing to comply with the notification requirements, which inform officers of any foreign travel, between September and December last year.

He was arrested in Salford in January.

The 32-year-old, now of HMP Forest Bank, was also sentenced for breach of a suspended sentence order which was investigated by West Yorkshire Police.

He was jailed for one year and four months.

In a statement, Greater Manchester Police said: “Mason Maxwell, of HMP Forest Bank, was jailed at Manchester Crown Court after being found guilty of failing to comply with notification requirements. Maxwell was sentenced to one year and four months imprisonment.

“On Thursday January 6 Maxwell was arrested at Clowes Street, Salford and subsequently charged with four counts of failing to comply with notification requirements relating to failure to comply with foreign travel notifications.

“The offences relate to incidents on September 3, September 24, November 4 and December 1, where Maxwell failed to register his intended foreign travel seven days ahead of departing the UK.

“Maxwell is required to notify intended foreign travel as part of conditions following his conviction of two counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity on in March 2015.

“He was also sentenced for breach of a suspended sentence order which was investigated by West Yorkshire Police.”

A disgraced former football coach and sex offender knocked out a man who mocked his convictions on a nightclub dancefloor, a court heard.

Kane Hutchison, originally from Gateshead, was jailed for four years in 2015 after a jury found him guilty of targeting two teenage boys over the internet and inciting them into sexual activity online.

The 31-year-old, nicknamed the ‘Beast of Bensham’, was already in custody when he stood trial after being sentenced to three years for sexually assaulting a 13-year-old boy who he had offered to take to watch a football match.

He was released from prison in December 2017, but put back behind bars the next year for breaching the terms of his licence.

Now living in Leeds, Hutchison is in court again after punching a man to the floor in the city’s Tunnel nightclub.

LeedsLive reports that the victim and his group of friends had made remarks about Hutchison’s previous convictions.

Hutchison’s pal Jason Burd then attacked the victim and his friend after they were all kicked out of the nightclub.

Hutchison and Burd, 28, were handed suspended sentences this week at Leeds Crown Court after pleading guilty to a number of offences.

Both groups were kicked out of the club but there was another confrontation outside.

The court was shown CCTV footage of Hutchison’s friend Jason Burd attacking the first victim and his friend and Hutchison joining in.

The first victim suffered bruising to both eyes and his nose and a cut to his head and the second victim suffered a fracture to the middle finger on his right hand.

The court was told Hutchison later apologised to the victims in person and via text and offered to pay them compensation.

In statements, the victims described being afraid to leave their homes after the incident.

Hutchison, of Savoy Court, Bradford Road, Pudsey, Leeds, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and affray.

He has 13 previous convictions, most of which are for breaches of football banning orders.

He also has previous convictions for sexual offences, including for sexually assaulting a 13-year-old boy and inciting other underage boys into sexual activity.

The former football coach used his victims’ love of football to groom them, ChronicleLive reported.

Speaking about Hutchison’s attack inside the nightclub, probation officer Eme Musgrove said: “The other group were calling him names in regard to his previous convictions but he has heard [that type of abuse] before so does not know why he reacted that way on this occasion.”

Rukhshanda Hussain, mitigating for Hutchison, said her client believed a punch had been thrown as well as the insults.

She said he was just trying to ‘have his co-defendant’s back’ during the confrontation outside the nightclub but then de-escalated the situation.

She said his apology showed “maturity and contrition”.

The barrister also said Hutchison was born and raised in Gateshead but moved to Leeds to escape “negative influences” and abuse he was getting.

She said he has stopped going out since the incident and will soon be in stable employment and settled accommodation.

Burd, of Manderston Chase, Armley, Leeds, pleaded guilty to two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Hutchison was handed a nine-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, and ordered to complete 15 days of rehabilitation activity and 200 hours of unpaid work.

Burd was handed a 13-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, and ordered to complete 250 hours of unpaid work.

They were both ordered to pay £500 compensation to the first victim and £500 towards prosecution costs.

Burd was also ordered to pay £750 to the second victim.

Motorist jailed after causing death of 17-year-old passenger

A driver who abandoned his vehicle after crashing into a roundabout and killing his teenage passenger has been jailed.

Tyrone Quinn, 20, had been drinking in Newcastle on the eve of the Ladies Day races with a group of friends that included 17-year-old James Docherty.

In the early hours of the next morning, July 24, the group got into Quinn’s blue BMW 3 Series car and were caught on camera driving dangerously through the city centre.

They then made their way towards Gateshead but at the roundabout junction of the Redheugh Bridge and Askew Road Quinn lost control causing the BMW to overturn.

Police received the call at around 4am and when they arrived they found front seat passenger James Docherty has suffered fatal injuries. He was sadly pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

Quinn was arrested by police but refused to assist their investigation and sat in silence throughout their questioning.

Northumbria Police Motor Patrols officers launched an investigation and were eventually able to identify Quinn as the driver. He was later charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

He was also charged with causing death whilst disqualified from driving, causing death whilst uninsured, driving whilst unfit through alcohol, driving whilst unfit through drugs and two counts of driving while above the prescribed drug limit.

Quinn, of Hewitson Terrace, Felling, Gateshead, admitted the offences at Newcastle Crown Court and today he was jailed for six years and nine months. He was also banned from driving for five years, which will start when he is released from prison.

Following the case, police released footage of the BMW being driven earlier in the morning to show the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

Senior investigating officer, Sergeant Steve Armstrong said: “We have released this footage to show just how dangerously Quinn was driving on the night of this collision.

“He was under the influence of both alcohol and drugs and was driving in a dangerous manner at high speed in Newcastle city centre on one of the busiest nights of the year without any regard for members of the public or the passengers in his vehicle.

“I do not get any pleasure from a case where a young man has lost his life and our thoughts are with James’ family at what must be an incredibly difficult time for them.

“This is a devastating reminder of how dangerous it can be to drive under the influence of alcohol and drugs. People think that they may be invincible but the sad truth is that is not the case.

“The only positive that can come from this case is that it acts as a reminder to other motorists, young drivers in particular, that a vehicle can be a deadly weapon when it is not treated with respect.

“Officers from Motor Patrols and Op Dragoon are committed to identifying those who feel that it is acceptable to drive motor vehicles on the road without complying with the law and we will take positive action against those involved.”

James’ mother Rachel released a statement on behalf of her family following the case and have paid tribute to the teenager who had just left school to start a career as a bricklayer.

They said: “The whole situation does not yet feel real to me. I have mixed emotions of sadness, anger and overall disbelief that James is gone.

“James was 17-years-old when he was taken from us. It is such a waste of a young man who had a positive future ahead of him. There is a sense of emptiness without his presence.

“I often see Ian (James’ father) getting upset and he regularly asks the same question that only Tyrone Quinn can answer: ‘Why would you drive a car when you’re under the influence of drink and drugs?’

“I understand Tyrone Quinn has not assisted the police during their investigation. This has added to our family’s grief, I cannot understand why Tyrone would not help the police investigate the death of his supposed friend.

“His refusal to give any account during police interviews has left us in the dark when all we want is to understand how James was taken from us.

“There is no sentence which could make up for my son being taken away. What I want is to have James back but that isn’t going to happen.”

A teenage party guest was raped while being gripped round the throat in a terrifying attack which lasted up to an hour-and-a-half.

Terry Maughan took advantage of the 17-year-old’s vulnerable drunken state after she ended up in a home alone with him at the end of the night.

A court heard he threw her to the floor, put his hand round her throat and tightened his grip when she tried to shout out.

Now the 23-year-old has been jailed for seven years after a jury at Newcastle Crown Court convicted him of rape.

Judge Penny Moreland told Maughan: “There was a gathering of young people at that house and (the victim) was extremely drunk that night.

“One by one the young people left and you were still downstairs when she was the last one left.

“You threw her to the floor, your hand on her throat so she couldn’t move and you raped her, tightening your grip if she tried to shout out.

“This was, on her account, a sustained incident. She thought she had been the victim of your offending for one-and-a-half hours.

“She was particularly vulnerable because she was young and extremely drunk.”

Maughan, of Denton View, Blaydon, Gateshead, had denied raping the girl but was found guilty after a trial.

Prosecutor Matthew Bean said the offence has had a bad effect on the victim.

He said: “She says following the offence she has become withdrawn and is nervous about leaving her home alone.

“It has not only affected her but her family members.

“She feels she is unable to go out socialising with friends, she has had low mood and she is attending counselling services.”

As well as the seven year prison sentence, Maughan was ordered to sign the sex offender register for life, was given a ten year restraining order banning him from contacting the victim and was barred from working with children or vulnerable adults.

The court heard he has no previous convictions and the judge was given references as to Maughan’s “good qualities”.

Tom Moran, defending, said: “While he must have become aware of her state of intoxication, he was not responsible for plying her with alcohol and he didn’t engineer them being left alone.

“The larger group of people gradually peeled off during the night, leaving just him and the victim.

“On the verdict of the jury, he then took the opportunity to commit a very serious offence.”

Mr Moran said the rape may not have lasted as long as the victim believed it had

Family of dealers caged for drugs and kidnapping

THIS drug-dealing family from hell who kidnapped and held a man hostage are today behind bars.

The Callisons brought fear to the streets peddling heroin and terrorising neighbours with their anti-social behaviour.

Now the grandmother, mother and two sons have been locked up for a total of more than 23 years for the kidnap and drugs offences.

They bundled their victim into a BMW, drove him to a friend’s to show off, stabbed him with a knife, and threatened him with a knuckleduster and sword.

Isaac Callison, 23, had already been charged with heroin dealing along with his gran, 63-year-old Billie Callison.

But when former associate Eddie Lowdon borrowed and subsequently damaged Isaac Callison’s car the family sunk to new depths and hatched a plot to get money from his parents.

Isaac, his brother Shane, their mother Tracy and a friend Alan Knowles bundled Mr Lowdon into a car, stabbed and beat him before ringing his parents demanding money as he begged for mercy.

Jailing them, Recorder Stubbs said: “This involved the brutal detention and beating and the use of him as a hostage to extract money from his parents. It must be every parents’ nightmare to receive a call trying to extort money from them while threats are made and they could hear their son crying for help in the background. No mercy was shown to him and these offences are so serious only custody can be justified.”

The kidnap of Mr Lowdon took place in February this year at a time when he had an association with the family.

Having returned Isaac Callison’s car damaged, the heroin dealer summoned his violent, steroid-fuelled brother, Shane, to mete out revenge.

Robin Patton, prosecuting at Newcastle Crown Court, said: “Fifteen to 20 minutes later Shane Callison, Tracy Callison and Alan Knowles arrived and said Isaac wanted payment.

“Shane Callison, who had brought a knuckleduster, punched Mr Lowdon in the face. He then took out a knife and stabbed him with it in the top of his right thigh, in the groin. He was then handcuffed by Shane Callison who continued to kick and punch him. He said he had taken two days of steroids and had not been training.

“Then Tracy Callison came in with a very long box. Shane Callison said it was a shotgun, saying it would kill an elephant and if he didn’t get the money he was going to get it.”

A BMW convertible then had a big bag draped over the back seat and Mr Lowdon was bundled into the car.

Shane Callison stopped off at a former girlfriend’s house to show off his hostage and pick up a sword, which he threatened Mr Lowdon with.

In a victim impact statement, Mr Lowdon said: “I was frightened I’m now scared to go out of the house. I keep getting flashbacks and fear for my children. I was threatened with my family being harmed, I thought I was dead.”

Isaac Callison and Billie Callison, both of Napier Road, Swalwell, Gateshead, both admitted possession with intent to supply heroin after £1,500 of the drug was found at their home last August. Isaac also admitted kidnap and was jailed for seven and a half years,

Billie Callison was jailed for 18 months for the drugs offence.

Shane Callison, 21, of Park Terrace, Swalwell, Gateshead, pleaded guilty to blackmail, kidnap and grievous bodily harm and was locked up for seven and a half years.

Tracy Callison, 44, of June Avenue, Winlaton, Gateshead, admitted kidnap and was jailed for four years.

Alan Knowles, 28, of Napier Road, Swalwell, Gateshead, admitted kidnap and blackmail and was jailed for three years.

Today residents living in Napier Road said they were delighted the culprits had been locked up.

Pensioner Patricia Kinghorn, 72, a grandmother-of-two, said: “It is very worrying to think that drug dealers were living in the street and I’m glad they have now been locked up.

“Police would often visit their house and we used to be concerned for the youngsters living in the area. I think most people here will be glad to see the back of them.”

Dad-of-two Mick Reckton, 61, added: “I think it’s great they’ve been locked up because they made people’s lives a misery and it was horrible having the Callison family live in the street.”

Abusive man fined

A MAN was abusive and aggressive to police who were called to a domestic disturbance.

Ronald Wood, 36, refused to leave his partner’s home in Church Street, Marley Hill, Gateshead, on Saturday night after she telephoned police about his behaviour.

Appearing before Gateshead magistrates, Wood, of Lonnen Drive, Swalwell, Gateshead, pleaded guilty to breaching the peace – his second similar offence in five months.

Magistrates told him his behaviour was “totally unacceptable” and bound him over to keep the peace in the sum of pounds 300 for nine months.

He told the bench: “I can’t get a job and am at my lowest ebb.”

Football coach Kane Hutchison can today be unmasked as a serial sex offender who targets young boys.

To the outside world, Hutchison was a respected young coach who played amateur football to a decent standard and enjoyed teaching youngsters.

But he harboured a dark secret – a sexual attraction to teenage boys – which can today be revealed for the first time after reporting restrictions were lifted.

Hutchison was jailed for three years last August for sexually assaulting a 13-year-old boy after offering to take him to watch a football match.

Now he has been found guilty of inciting two teenage boys to engage in sexual activity on the internet, abusing his position for his own gratification.

The court case last year heard the 25-year-old had been banned from coaching youngsters by the Football Association and had to curtail a training stint in the USA in 2011 after further allegations were made.

During that case, prosecutor Vince Ward said: “He has coached in the USA.

“There have been complaints made by other children which have not resulted in criminal proceedings or conviction, which have led to the FA banning him from coaching activities.

“That resulted in him having to curtail training in America.”

Mr Ward said Hutchison had played for a local amateur team and had coached youngsters there.

He said: “He played for a local team to a reasonable standard in local leagues and has coached children from that club as well.

“He has offered children private coaching sessions at his home address.”

The sexual assaults happened in April last year when he invited a youngster to attend an away match between Gateshead and Macclesfield.

Hutchison, who was banned from going to football matches after taking part in a pitch invasion in 2011, invited the boy to stay over at his home, saying they needed an early start.

He told the boy they would have to share a bed and soon announced it was bed time. Within minutes he began molesting the terrified youngster in the bed, the court heard.

The boy later reported to his mother what had happened and Hutchison was arrested within hours when police found him hiding in the loft.

Hutchison denied two counts of sexual assault but was found guilty after a trial. As well as the three years prison sentence he was told to sign the sex offender register indefinitely and was made subject to a ten-year sexual offences prevention order.

Nick Lane, defending, said: “The FA revoked his licence to coach children. He remains a coach but only in relation to adults

“He was involved at the time of his arrest in marketing and working for a football magazine.”

Mr Lane added: “He is a man who in the past has done considerable charity work and good work for the community.

“In 2013 he was part of a team raising money for Help for Heroes who over the course of 24 hours visited 20 Premier League grounds as a way of raising funds for that charity.

“He has used his football contacts in the past to organise a charity match for testicular cancer.

“He has also in the past used his sporting skills working with adults with learning difficulties to encourage them to participate in sport.”

Hutchison, formerly of Field House Road, Gateshead, has now also been found guilty of inciting two other boys on the internet when they were just 13 and 14.

The first victim knew Hutchison played for a football club in Gateshead and was looking into joining the same club.

Hutchison made contact with the boy on Facebook, where he was advertising for players, and they began to communicate.

Prosecutor Alec Burns said: “From the defendant’s point of view the communication became more and more sexual.

“He told him he could earn money making pornographic films, he said £350 an hour.

“He asked (the boy) to send pictures of himself.”

The boy told police Hutchison had communicated with him on ‘face tag’ and the pervert appeared on his computer screen via a webcam committing a sex act on himself.

He encouraged the victim to do the same and made him swap intimate pictures.

Hutchison also tried to meet the youngster in a car park, the court heard.

The offences started in the summer of 2013 and lasted until March last year.

It came to light last August when the boy’s family checked his Facebook account and saw the messages from Hutchison.

He had targeted another boy, aged 14, in a similar way between April and August last year.

Hutchison lied about his age and started asking the youngster to meet him, offering him £20 to do so.

He also sent him intimate pictures of himself on Facebook and Snapchat and encouraged him to do the same.

It came to light when the boy’s mother read about a previous court appearance by Hutchison and recognised him as one of her son’s Facebook friends.

Sentence was adjourned on the latest convictions until next month.

Judge John Evans told him: “Having been convicted of these offences I’m going to adjourn sentence now for a pre-sentence report to address the issue of dangerousness.

“You know only a custodial sentence can follow in relation to these matters.”

The trial heard Hutchison had been “struggling with his sexuality” at the time and has been on a sex offender programme in prison.

Park thug spared prison.

A THUG who assaulted two 14-year-old girls has escaped going to prison.

Wayne McCurry headbutted one of the girls and punched the other four times.

The 30-year-old, who has a history of violence, was jailed for four years in September 2003 for wounding with intent and affray. Gateshead magistrates considered caging him again and told him: “Only custody is appropriate because these were unprovoked attacks but we are suspending the sentence because of your guilty plea.”

McCurry, of Lansbury Drive, Birtley, Gateshead, initially denied both assaults but changed his plea to guilty three days before his trial was due to take place.

Prosecutor Ian Simpson said the attacks on the girls, who can’t be named for legal reasons, took place in a Gateshead park last November 30.

McCurry attacked the girls as they were sitting on swings.

Mr Simpson said neither girl suffered serious injuries.

One was left with a sore ear and the other had bruising around her left eye.

McCurry was given a 26-week sentence suspended for 12 months and 12 months supervision.

He must do 100 hours of unpaid work and pay each of the girls pounds 50 compensation.

A raider who laughed on hearing how he left his victim traumatised has been jailed.

Liam Smith smirked and openly laughed when a court was told how his attempted robbery at a Gateshead newsagent’s had left the lone female worker having nightmares and living in fear.

Shirtless Smith, 21, burst into Martin’s newsagent in Oakfield Road, Whickham, knocking over a lottery stand before walking behind the counter and pushing his hand into the face of terrified worker Lisa Thirkell.

The raider then screamed at Ms Thirkell “give me the money; get the cash out; get the till open”.

The attempted robbery was only stopped when a customer came in the shop, realised what was happening and shouted “get off her” before wrestling Smith to the ground.

Smith, of Hyde Park Street, Gateshead, pleased guilty to attempted robbery last month.

Mark Guiliani, prosecuting, read out a victim statement from Ms Thirkell. In it she said: “He grabbed me, I feared he was going to seriously assault me.

“To the defendant I say ‘why me, why me, why anyone?’ What gave him the right to treat me as his enemy?

“The job has been difficult and I still shudder every time the door chimes. I hate thinking everyone is like him.

“The incident has not only affected my work but it has been detrimental to me. I have trouble sleeping, nightmares and I’ve been to my GP.”

When Mr Guiliani finished reading the statement, Judge James Goss QC immediately raised concerns about Smith’s laughing.

He said: “At various points when the statement was being read out, the defendant either smiled or laughed at the effect of this offence on his victim.”

The laughing caused the judge to reject any claims Smith was sorry for his actions, jailing him for three years.

The judge added: “You do not smile repeatedly and laugh at times when the effect of the victim was being described to this court if you were genuinely remorseful.”

Defending Michael Hodson said his client’s laughter was down to adolescent bravado and the offence had been unplanned and the result of heavy drinking.

Following the case, Ms Thirkell said: “I’m just glad it’s all over now.”

Shoplifter’s light touch

A SHOPLIFTER saw the light when he was nabbed with 22 lightbulbs.

Derek Fender was found with the pounds 153 haul of energy-efficient bulbs when stopped by police in Gateshead.

The 38-year-old admitted stealing them from Homebase, Retail World, Team Valley, earlier that day to use in his own flat.

Fender, who has 31 convictions for theft, pleaded guilty to the May 9 theft and was given a 12-month conditional discharge to run alongside a community order he is on.

Defending, Tom Iceton, told Gateshead magistrates that when Fender, of Bensham Crescent, Gateshead, split up with his girlfriend, she wouldn’t let him take anything but his clothing.

His benefit claim was reduced because of his change of address, said Mr Iceton, and he couldn’t afford basics to furnish his flat. But this has now been sorted out.
