A MAN who threatened police with a fake gun has been has been jailed for two-and-a-half years.

Gareth Pipes was given 16 months for making a threat to kill and 16 months for possessing an imitation firearm.

A Derbyshire police spokeswoman said Pipes was wanted on recall to prison and on February 5, he called Matlock Police Station and asked to speak to a sergeant. When he was transferred to a sergeant, he made threats to kill him.

On February 7, officers visited a house in Overdale, Matlock, while searching for Pipes.

When they entered the house, Pipes produced a gun and threatened them. The officers arrested him and seized the gun, which was later found to be fake.

Pipes, 30, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to both crimes and was sentenced at Derby Crown Court on Monday, March 9.

Sittingbourne man Darren White chased and beaten with plank after argument with Asian men

A Sittingbourne man who was beaten with a plank by two Asian men was himself hauled before the courts for racially aggravated assault.

Darren White posted footage on his Twitter account of the pair attacking him with a wooden plank as he fled through the town’s high street.

The 32-year-old then tweeted the former English Defence League leader Tommy Robinson, alerting him to the case.

“I got beat with wood and pole and I may be going prison for racial aggravated behaviour,” he posted.

The video shows White being chased past the New Century Cinema before being struck four times with the plank as he entered the high street.

White, of Doubleday Drive, Bapchild, went on to tweet “got court today as I said arrest the ****ing Muslims so up for section 5 (sic)”.

Tommy Robinson responded to the post, saying: “It’s a joke, that Muslim that hit you with the wood, has he been arrested?”

He was ordered to pay £1,925 in fines for assaulting the policemen and another £300 for having the drug.

However, White was found not guilty of racially aggravated behaviour.

The Asian men shown in the video initially denied any wrongdoing.

But Muhammad Ahad, 24, of Kingston Road, Epsom, and Sarwar Hussain, 25, of Palmerston Road, Chatham, changed their pleas to guilty in court and will be sentenced later this month.

A SOUTH Tyneside football yob described as a “genuinely decent member of society” has been slapped with a banning order after a violent clash between rival fans.

Simon Badham avoided jail after admitting violent disorder following a mass street brawl between Sunderland and West Ham supporters.

The 21-year-old, from Frobisher Street, Hebburn, was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment, suspended for two years, with 250 hours’ unpaid work. He was also given a three-year banning order.

Badham was one of four men to appear at Newcastle Crown Court yesterday to be sentenced over the violence, which erupted outside Revolution bar in Sunderland on January 12.

Judge Jeremy Freedman said Badham is usually a “genuinely decent member of society”.

Also sentenced was Kevin Bilton, 51, of Lambton Drive, Hetton, who admitted violent disorder and was sentenced to four months’ imprisonment, suspended for two years, with 100 hours of unpaid work.

Sean Herron, 19, of Hogarth Drive, Columbia, Washington, who handed in a stash of testimonials to his usually positive character, was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment, suspended for two years, with 250 hours of unpaid work.

Shaun Baker, 29, of Gainsborough Square, Sunderland, was sentenced to four months’ imprisonment, suspended for two years with £500 costs.

All pleaded guilty to violent disorder and were given three-year football banning orders.

Judge Freedman said he accepted the men were ashamed of what they had done, and accepted none of them had been involved in the organising of the brawl by the Sunderland Youth Firm and rival supporters.

A PROTESTER has been fined after parking outside polling stations on General Election day with a ‘Labour paedo party’ sign on his van.

Police were called to Horwich Library in Jones Street on May 7 after the white van had been spotted there, Bolton Magistrates Court heard.

Officers traced the van to Wayne Riley and found it on the street outside his Singleton Avenue home — still with two signs stuck to the side.

Riley swore and became abusive to officers, who quizzed him about the signs, the other of which read ‘please do not vote Labour’.

He was arrested after police made repeated efforts to reason with him, the court was told.

Riley appeared in court yesterday representing himself, but was removed by security staff at the request of chair of the bench Roz Clarke, after repeatedly shouting down magistrates and court staff.

He left the court building and security staff were instructed not to let him back in. The case was then heard in his absence.

Giving evidence, Sgt Alex Metcalfe said: “I could see straight away that he was angry and belligerent.

“He was swearing and he was aggressive. Children of school age were playing out and they were within hearing distance of what he was saying.

“His behaviour, coupled with the signs he had put on his van, and the fact we had already been called to one incident meant I was alarmed at how he was behaving.

“There were children playing out and mums walking past his can. There was no option but to arrest him.”

PC Alison Casey said in her evidence that Riley eventually turned his abuse to her, saying “the police never do anything about child abuse”.

The court heard she might not have taken any action had Riley calmed down and removed the signs from the van — which was parked on the street in full public view — but he refused to do so.

Riley was found guilty of a public order offence of using threatening or abusive words or behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress.

He must pay a court bill of £1,255, comprising a £350 fine, £350 in costs, £520 criminal courts charge and a £35 victim surcharge.

On the day of the election, Labour councillor for Horwich Kevin McKeon said: “I feel sorry for a person whose bitterness can compel them to do something like this.

“I don’t think this will have any effect on voters today.

“I am of course disappointed that someone has done this but I am very pleased that the police have taken swift and correct action on the matter.”

Labour MP Julie Hilling went on to lose her Bolton West seat to the Conservatives’ Chris Green by just 801 votes.

A NORTH West Infidel protestor was caught on tape shouting racist abuse in Blackburn.

Clare Louise Arrowsmith, 38, of Bothley Road, in Blackpool, had travelled to the town to take part in the far right rally.

She pleaded guilty to religiously aggravated threatening behaviour and was given a conditional discharge for 18 months.

She was also told to pay £85 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.

Catherine Allan, prosecuting, said Arrowsmith had travelled by train to take part in the town centre demo.

“She told police she was demonstrating against Islam because they were ‘grooming and murdering our children’,” Ms Allan said.

“She went on to express some extremist views about Muslims.”

Gary McAnulty, defending, said his client previously attended English Defence League demonstrations. He said there was no one else present except for the police.

He said: “This was the first time she had attended anything organised by the North West Infidels.

“They are a splinter group and very right wing compared to the EDL. It would appear there was no one there except the police.

“She was filmed making the comments and then went home.”

Soldier’s ‘Muslim blood’ Facebook shame

A volunteer soldier posted a comment on Facebook suggesting racist violent revenge should be taken on the day drummer Lee Rigby was murdered.

Mark Tonner wrote “Get the boys together we need to paint the town red with Muslim blood”.

He was arrested after a member of the public complained on the Lancashire Police website about what Tonner had written.

Tonner, 36, of Ashton Road, Blackpool, pleaded guilty to sending an offensive message.

He was bailed for pre-sentence reports and will be sentenced at a later date by Blackpool magistrates.

Andrea Fawcett, prosecuting, said after the murder of Lee Rigby in Woolwich, Tonner posted the comment on Facebook on May 23.

Tonner wrote “Dean, you’re in charge of Blackpool now. Get the boys together we need to paint the town red with Muslim blood”.

When interviewed by police Tonner said he had been angry and drunk at the time. He did not know Dean personally but believed he was a member of The English Defence League (EDL).

Hugh Pond, defending, said his client had been a member of the Army Reserve, formerly known as the Territorial Army, for more than five years and served as a clerk in the Transport Regiment at Grantham.

Tonner had been drinking heavily and had been revolted by the television pictures of the blood covered men saying they had murdered drummer Rigby.

Tonner, who was said in a reference from his commanding officer to have an exemplary character in the Army, was not a member of the EDL or National Front.

He was thoroughly ashamed of what he had done and was under investigation by the Army Reserve.

Girl, 13, abused after couple lured her in

A HUSBAND and wife are waking up behind bars after luring a Blackpool girl and keeping her in their home, where the man sexually abused her.

Michael Kinnear, 41, and Nicola Kinnear, 40, admitted detaining the 13-year-old in their terraced house on Fairfield Road in North Shore.

After being lured into the couple’s home with the promise of shelter and food, the youngster, who was in foster care, was sexually touched by Michael Kinnear.

Grooming

A judge at Preston Crown Court described their actions as “classic grooming” and said they should have informed the authorities of her whereabouts.

Police began the hunt for the 13-year-old girl in April last year after her concerned Blackpool foster parents reported her missing.

The youngster was found six days later in Kinnear’s house.

Officers had already called at the house and been told she was not there.

DC Andy Rigby, from Blackpool Police and Blackpool Council’s Awaken Team, a project to tackle the exploitation of vulnerable children, said: “This young girl who was in foster care wasn’t happy with her placement and got introduced to these two through a mutual teenage friend.

“She was there for six days and they didn’t contact anybody, hence the child abduction. While there, Michael Kinnear has committed sexual activity with her.

“The judge described it as classic grooming – they gave her free reign and no rules, they fed and clothed her during the week.”

Police were able to track the teenager’s whereabouts after tracing a mobile phone she had used to call a missing person’s helpline to the Kinnears’ address.

DC Rigby added: “We visited their address, while knocking on doors, and they had denied all knowledge of anything. Then we traced the mobile phone to that address and when we went round again, they still denied it. “Eventually they said ‘she’s here’.

“She saw them in the first instance as a place of shelter, but clearly they had other ideas, hence the sentences.

“She wasn’t locked in the house, they just allowed her to stay there. It’s very important a message is sent out to children – nobody does anything for nothing. You have to take a step back and think ‘what is the ulterior motive’.”

The teenager has now left Blackpool and police say she has settled back into care and is “putting it behind her”.

Michael Kinnear was sentenced to 33 months in prison after pleading guilty to detaining a child so as to keep her from a person having lawful control and engaging in sexual activity with a child.

Nicola Kinnear was handed a 16-month jail term for detaining a child.

DC Rigby added: “This has been a complex and difficult investigation but I am pleased with the sentence.”

The couple did not plead guilty to the offences until the trial began. Michael Kinnear was placed on the sex offenders register for seven years and given a 10-year Sex Offenders Prevention Order.

Morecambe woman accused of using seven-year-old girl for worldwide pornography

A man and a woman exploited a seven-year-old girl and involved her in pornography worldwide.

Michael Kinnear and Caroline Shaw took obscene pictures of the little girl and distributed them a court was told.

Kinnear, 48, who gave his last known address as Fairfield Avenue, Blackpool, and Caroline Shaw, 29, formerly of Thornton Road, Morecambe, now living in Meldon Road, Morecambe, pleaded guilty to inciting a seven-year-old girl to be involved in pornography worldwide.

They also admitted offences of possessing and distributing indecent pictures, some at the highest level of indecency, of children.

Shaw further pleaded guilty to taking an indecent picture of a child and ill-treating a child.

All the offences took place at Morecambe between October last year and May this year.

Prosecutor Malcolm Isherwood said: “The case involves the taking and making of indecent images of children.

“They exploited a seven-year-old child, photographs were taken of her and distributed.”

The prosecution opposed bail for Kinnear.

The defendants were ordered to appear for sentence at Preston Crown Court on August 12 by Blackpool magistrates.

Kinnear was remanded in custody and Shaw was bailed.

Vigilante with ‘loathing for sex offenders’ jailed for headbutting paedophile he had lured to town centre

A vigilante with “a loathing for sex offenders” headbutted a suspected paedophile after using a fictional 14-year-old girl to lure him into a trap.

Andrew O’Neill arrived in Wigan town centre expecting to meet the teenage school girl he had been grooming via an online dating website and go to a hotel with her.

But the girl did not exist and his increasingly sexualised comments to the teenager were in fact being answered by a vigilante group.

When he got to Market Place in Wigan he was met by a waiting gang who filmed the attack by one of them, Daniel Holding.

The video was then posted on Facebook with the tag “NWI Nonce Busters”, referring to the right-wing group, the North West Infidels.

Holding, who headbutted him, cracking two of his teeth, was today jailed for eight months.

Judge Mark Brown told 25-year-old Holding: “The state cannot permit individuals to take the law into their own hands whatever the motives might be. Vigilante behaviour such as this cannot be tolerated.

“This was not a situation in which you sought to detect a sex offender and just report him to the police. You met him the Wigan town centre and imposed retribution upon him when you head butted him causing serious injuries to his mouth.

“You may have a loathing for sex offenders but I am satisfied this gave you the opportunity to use violence for what you perceived to be justifiable reasons.

“You described your actions in the street as ‘paedo hunting’ and ‘nonce busting’.”

The judge pointed out that Holding has previous convictions for violence and has breached court orders.

Holding, of Bridge’s Street, Atherton, pleaded guilty to assaulting 25-year-old O’Neill, causing actual bodily harm.

Lianne Birkett, prosecuting, told Liverpool Crown Court that the area of the attack was busy at the time of the attack in April and two witnesses contacted the police.

Holding was also clearly visible in the video posted on Facebook and he was arrested the next day.

O’Neill, of no fixed abode, was jailed for 12 months for grooming by a judge last month.
