A DRINK and drug-driver tried to impress youngsters by speeding at up to 100mph on a residential street, before a “catastrophic crash” in which he left three passengers injured, one seriously, in the back seat.

Lewis Stores ignored requests from passengers to slow down moments before losing control of his Ford Focus, careering into pavement street furniture and ploughing into a bus shelter at 5am on April 2.

Just before the crash, Stores, who was jailed for 32 months yesterday, told his passengers “Watch this”.

Stores and his front seat passenger fled from the wreckage on Clyde Terrace, Spennymoor, but a passer-by freed two passengers from the car, but the third, a 14-year-old boy, suffered multiple fractures and other injuries and was airlifted to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary.

Durham Crown Court was told as 20-year-old Stores was arrested at home almost double the drink-driving limit and with cocaine in his system two hours after the crash, the boy underwent emergency surgery for fractures to his left leg and arm, wrist and fingers.

Ian West, prosecuting, said while the boy came close to having to have an arm amputated due to a loss of blood flow, Stores, of Salisbury Crescent, West Cornforth, admitted to police he had been drinking at a house party in Middlestone Moor, Spennymoor.

The boy spent a month in hospital and the court heard, seven months on from the accident, he was still receiving treatment for nerve damage and skin grafts to his leg and arm, while he had lost dexterity in his wrist.

An impact statement from his mother, read to the court, said the boy still had some difficulty walking, as the recovering leg sometimes gave way, while he had only been able to attend school a few days a week.

Stores told police as he had a car, party-goers had asked him to drive to a petrol station for alcohol and drop some part-goers home.

Mr West said Stores began driving at excessive speed, “with an element of showing off” after leaving the petrol station.

A witness estimated the Focus to have reached up to 100mph on Clyde Terrace, while police experts concluded just before impact it was travelling at 72mph on the 30mph-limit street.

Stores admitted causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and drink and drug-driving.

Amrit Jandoo, mitigating, said Stores, of previous good character, had committed an “appalling piece of driving”.

Mr Jandoo said: “He had been at this house party, but it was at the request of others he was obliged to take others to petrol stations to buy more alcohol. But, by getting into the car he accepts he knew he was over the limit.

“Others getting into the car were impressed by this vehicle and in some ways he wanted to impress them with its speed and power, and that led to this moment of madness. When told to slow down he applied his brakes, but lost control.”

Mr Jandoo said after the impact, Stores panicked and fled, but by the time police called at his home there was “no prevarication”.

Judge Simon Hickey said more than just one passenger could have suffered catastrophic injuries as a result, and it was only down to the skill of the surgeons that the long-term consequences were not worse for the most badly affected passenger.

Stores was also banned from driving for four years and four months.

Three men jailed after court hears of “planned mob violence” featuring arsenal of weapons and “appalling” injuries

Three far right Polish hooligans recruited by neo-Nazis to fight anti-fascists in Liverpool were today jailed.

Opposing factions hurled missiles and caused up to £25,000 of damage to St George’s Hall in ugly scenes on Saturday, February 27, 2016.

A woman was left scarred for life, a man suffered a broken nose and a police officer was knocked unconscious outside Lime Street Station.

Another officer suffered a broken wrist and an elderly black woman was racially abused and struck in the head by a stone.

Nazi swastikas were daubed on walls, cobble stones were torn up from the building’s plateau and a Victorian statue was damaged.

Marcin Reekus, Pawel Starzynski, Lukasz Pietraszek and Michal Nalepka all admitted violent disorder at the start of a trial.

Liverpool Crown Court heard how they were recruited by event organisers and North West Infidels members Shane Calvert and Wayne Bell.

Convicted crack cocaine and heroin dealer Reekus, 31, was described as the “principal organiser” of the “Polish Hooligans” group.

He ran a ‘Polish Ultras’ Facebook page and after being contacted by Calvert, sent him a poster confirming they would fight side-by-side.

Reekus knew the “anti-immigration demonstration” was being moved from Manchester to Liverpool – a deliberate ploy to try and trick police.

Simon Driver, prosecuting, said Reekus did not get out of the train station, where he was pictured posing with a Polish flag.

But a second group of fascists gathered on the steps of St George’s Hall, where neo-Nazi flags were flown amid ‘sieg heil’ salutes.

Police spotted 10 to 15 men in a car park in Craven Street near TJ Hughes, who Mr Driver said “made no secret of their designs”.

Some wore black hoodies emblazoned with “Polska Hooligans” and badges showing a person being kicked, captioned “good night left side”.

The masked group were approached by an officer and asked what they had come to Liverpool for, to which one thug replied: “A fight.”

The group – including Starzynski, 36, Pietrazek, 28, and Nalepka, 33 – doubled in size then “descended in unison” to the hall.

Mr Driver said: “The arrival of this group was a catalyst for an increase in the levels of violence.”

Police came under attack from both sides with industrial fireworks, flares, bottles, cobble stones and eggs at around 2.30pm.

After four and a half hours, officers encircled the right wing supporters and marched them back to Lime Street Station.

Police recovered a pepper spray canister from the steps and knuckledusters, a baton and a dog chain from the area where the Poles were held.

Starzynski was arrested and his mobile phone revealed his number had been used for arranging transport on a “f*** Islam and ISIS” event poster.

He had talked about buying the hoodies, one of which he wore when he ran to the hall and threw a smoke canister at counter-protesters.

He was recorded wearing a clown mask, which he took off to reveal a gum shield, and “sparring mitts” on his hands.

Pietrazek also wore one of the hoodies and his phone showed he was responsible for buying and distributing the tops.

He had exchanged text messages with a man about fighting “lefties”, saying a “decent crew” was going from Preston, Leeds and Crewe.

Nalepka, who wore his own grey top, was recorded with his face covered and wearing gloves with padded knuckles.

Mr Driver said: “He is captured on the footage adopted a fighting stance with his fists raised towards left wing protesters.”

Nalepka was pushed back by officers, but later breached a cordon, only to be assaulted by counter-protesters.

Judge Andrew Menary, QC, imposed criminal behaviour orders, banning all four men from entering Liverpool for five years.

He said many of the “self-styled Polish hooligans” wore “deliberately intimidating face masks” and tops bearing violent imagery.

The judge said: “There was nothing benign about the hooded tops that those men were wearing.” He added: “It was planned mob violence.”

Reekus, of Bradford, West Yorkshire, was jailed for 23 months and Starzynski, of Ware, Hertfordshire, and Pietraszek, of Hayes, West London, for 20 months each.

Michal Nalepka, of Harlow, Essex, was handed 20 months in prison, suspended for two years, plus a 25-day rehabilitation activity requirement.

Judge Menary said Nalepka must perform 250 hours of unpaid work and pay £500 in compensation, to be split equally between the five victims.

A man has admitted intentionally flinging acid in the faces of two cousins, leaving them with horrific burns.

Aspiring model Resham Khan and Jameel Muhktar required plastic surgery to treat scars on their necks and faces after the assault through a car window on Resham’s 21st birthday, June 21.

John Tomlin, of Colman Road, Canning Town, today admitted two counts of intending to cause grevious bodily harm (GBH) at Snaresbrook Crown Court.

The 25-year-old, who appeared in the dock with tattooed teardrops on his cheeks, previously pleaded guilty to two lesser charges of inflicting GBH last month.

The court heard how Tomlin had got into an argument with 27-year-old Jameel in Tollgate Road at 9.13am.

When Jameel returned to his car, Tomlin approached and threw a corrosive substance through the open passenger window, hitting him and Resham.

Tomlin was remanded in custody for sentencing at Snaresbrook Cown Court on January 26.

A BRICKLAYER who caused armed officers to swoop on a Bitterne pub after bringing an imitation firearm to its premises has been jailed.

William Mason was chucked out of The Red Lion, in Bitterne Precinct, on June 30 after bouncers grew “concerned” about him waiting around the gents in the Wetherspoons pub.

After a security guard ordered him to leave, the 30 year old dropped the fake gun outside the premises before quickly picking it up again and fleeing.

Prosecutor Charles Nightingale told Southampton Magistrates’ Court that security within the pub were suspicious of people using the toilets as “it can sometimes be a place where drugs are exchanged and drugs are used”.

Mr Nightingale added: “The assistant manager then approached Mason to ask what was going on.

“The defendant then goes outside and away but drops the gun.”

At the time it was reported that armed officers came to the pub to reports of a man with a gun.

The court heard that officers visited Mason’s premises and found the BB gun but that it was unloaded.

Mr Nightingale told Southampton Magistrates’ Court that Mason was also convicted of two counts of possessing a bladed article in public when police pulled over his car at around 10am on September 6.

He said: “Officers stopped the car because one of the windows was smashed.

“The defendant was driving and appeared to be very nervous.

“They searched his car and inside the glove box found a lock knife and down the drivers’ pocket a hunting knife.”

Mr Nightingale added: “The three charges put together showed that this man has an unhealthy interest in weapons.”

Mason pleaded not guilty to the charges, but when the cases went to two separate trials he failed to turn up on either occasion.

In each instance, Magistrates found him guilty in his absence.

The court heard that Mason had a previous conviction for possessing a knife from 2002, when he was just 14 years old.

Mitigating, Michael McGoldrick told the court that despite this being the second instance where Mason had been caught with a knife, a suspended sentence order could be issued.

He said: “Mason has lived a very chaotic lifestyle due to his heroine misuse but his family still support him.

“His mother is suffering with cancer and he wants to be there.

“His father has planned for work for him in reconstructing a farm so he could start working again.”

Mason, of Adey Close, Sholing, was sentenced to six months. He was ordered to pay £115 victim surcharge.

Lawrence Burns, 26, made anti-semitic comments and shared Hitler imagery online

An extremist who made anti-semitic comments and shared Hitler imagery online has been jailed for four years.

Lawrence Burns, 26, had earlier been found guilty of two charges of inciting racial hatred in a string of provocative Facebook posts in 2014.

He was also prosecuted for making a racist speech at a memorial demonstration for American white supremacist leader David Lane.

In the speech, which was later shared online via YouTube, Burns was heard to refer to Jews as “parasites” that wanted to create a “mongrelised race”.

Burns, of Coldham’s Lane, Cambridge, was charged with the two offences on January 22 last year and found guilty in December.

A judge at Peterborough Crown Court today ruled that he should serve a total of four years in prison for his offences.

During the trial it was alleged that Burns commented on a YouTube video that he wanted to “hang the black race”, while also sharing Adolf Hitler artwork.

Jurors were shown screenshots of hundreds of Facebook posts that Burns had written under a different name.

In one post, Burns is alleged to have written that black children were born with a “horrible” nature and were mean to animals.

He is also reported to have written: “The white race is the only race that can boost evolution. The rest of the other races must be eliminated.”

Prosecutor Mark Weekes earlier summarised Burns’s extreme views to the court. He said: “This is a young man who is an extremist and has expressed racist views, particularly towards the Jewish and Afro-Caribbean community.

“On his public Facebook account, which has more than 90 friends, he expressed some of the vilest and most offensive sentiments possible.

“Many of the posts are abusive and insulting towards Jews, who he refers to as ‘sub human animals’ and contain offensive words.”

Mr Weekes added that in a post on August 28, 2014, Burns accused white women of “mating with race-mixing filth” and on September 1, 2014, compared Jews to “maggots in a decaying body” who are “hijacking the genes of a superior white race”.

Adrian Davis, who defended Burns during the course of the trial, said Burns had mistakenly thought his Facebook account was set up to keep his posts private.

He said someone seeking to incite racial hatred would seek the largest possible audience, whereas Burns had set out to do the “very opposite, but messed it up”.

Mr Davis said Burns was a “rash young man” who had never intended his words to be read by a wide audience.

Dominic Howe admitted having a Samurai sword in the street.

Dominic Howe admitted having a Samurai sword in the street.

A MENTALLY ill man, armed with a samurai sword, was on the way to avenge his uncle’s death when he was stopped by police in South Tyneside, a court heard.

Dominic Lewis Howe has been banned from South Tyneside for six months after being found with the 18-inch weapon while under the influence of drink and drugs.

The court heard a resident had raised the alarm after spotting the 20-year-old staggering along Sheridan Road, South Shields, at about 8am on Monday, with the handle of the sword sticking out of his trousers.

Howe was arrested and, after he’d sobered up, told police he had been on his way to find the man who had supplied his uncle with the drugs he used to kill himself with an overdose.

Yesterday, Howe, of Percy Road, Whitley Bay, appeared before South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court.

Jeanette Smith, prosecuting, said: “He told police he had been drinking. He had gone to watch Newcastle play and had been drinking.

“He had also taken cocaine and ended up in a friend’s house in Whiteleas.

“He continued drinking and began to think about his uncle, who died of a drugs overdose. He wanted to find the man who sold his uncle the drugs, and he went out with the intention of trying to kill that person.

“All that was on his mind was revenge.” The court was told that Howe has been diagnosed with a bipolar disorder and is hoping to receive medication in order to treat the illness.

Geoffrey Forrester, defending, said: “Looking at the reality of the situation, the defendant was extremely intoxicated and was staggering around with the sword down his trousers.

“In all probability he presented more of a threat to himself than to anyone else.

“There was no suggestion he was waving this sword around.

“This was something that was going to end with him being arrested by police before anything was going to happen. He wasn’t in any state to do anything.”

Magistrates warned Howe, who pleaded guilty to being in possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, that they were considering sending him to jail.

However, the court heard from the probation service that sending him to prison would be detrimental to his mental health condition.

Chairman of the Bench, Robert McDonald, said: “The bench has spent considerable time discussing how to deal with you for what is a very serious offence.

“Carrying that weapon in itself is dangerous. However, you did not produce it or threaten anyone, which is something we have taken into account.

“We were very close to sending you to prison.”

Howe was jailed for 12 weeks, suspended for 18 months, with 18 months supervision and banned from South Tyneside for six months.

Opposing factions hurled missiles and caused up to £25,000 of damage to St George’s Hall left daubed with Nazi swastikas

Right-wing activists involved in violent clashes between neo-Nazis and anti-fascists outside Lime Street Station have been jailed.

A woman was left scarred for life, a man suffered a broken nose and a police officer was knocked unconscious in ugly scenes last year.

Liverpool Crown Court heard opposing factions hurled missiles and caused up to £25,000 of damage to the historic St George’s Hall.

Nazi swastikas were daubed on walls, cobble stones were torn up from the building’s plateau and a Victorian statue was damaged.

Shane Calvert, Wayne Bell and Brian Stamp today appeared in court, alongside allies Nikki Prescott and Alan Raine. Calvert admitted conspiracy to commit violent disorder, while Bell was convicted after a trial. Prescott, Raine and Stamp admitted affray.

Bell liaised with Merseyside Police to organise “The White Man March” for now-banned fascist terrorist group National Action on August 15, 2015.The event, in Liverpool, ended in “humiliating failure” for the far right, after they were met by a much larger group of counter-protesters.

Simon Driver, prosecuting, said the fascists “were forced to take refuge in a left-luggage facility” before police escorted them to trains. Stung by the embarrassment, another far right group, the North West Infidels, headed to Liverpool on February 27, 2016.

Police were not informed and organiser Calvert deliberately changed the location of the “anti-immigration demonstration” from Manchester to Liverpool.

Fascists were again met by police and counter-protesters but had enlisted a group of Polish men called the “Polish Hooligans”. One cluster of far right-supporters congregated at the Crown Pub, including Stamp, Prescott and Raine, at around 11.30am.

A second group, including Calvert and Bell, gathered on the steps of St George’s Hall, as trouble flared at around 1.30pm.

Mr Driver said: “They displayed North West Infidels banners and neo-Nazi flags. They made gestures, which included the Nazi style ‘sieg heil’ salutes.”

CCTV showed the stand-off, with rival factions separated by riot police, who held the first group at the pub and escorted them away. Smoke canisters and fireworks were thrown and, at 2.30pm, the group near the hall were joined by the Poles.

They wore black hoodies emblazoned with “Polska Hooligans” and badges showing a person being kicked, captioned “good night left side”.

Police came under attack from both sides with industrial fireworks, flares, bottles, cobble stones and eggs. Mr Driver said: “A police inspector was knocked unconscious by a missile and a police constable suffered a broken wrist.”

A young female bystander suffered a facial gash requiring plastic surgery and a man suffered a cut and broken nose. People attending an antiques fair within the hall had to be locked in for their own safety.

A 75-year-old black woman who emerged was racially abused and struck in the forehead by a stone. Police eventually encircled the fascists and marched them to the station.

Mr Driver said Calvert wished to “avenge” the previous defeat, as shown in text messages to a man called Garron Helm. He and Bell, who bragged of punching left-wing activists “like that game whack attack”, recruited the Poles.

They exchanged messages talking of “payback time for Liverpool” and Bell spoke of “the local n***** population”.

Stamp boasted of buying “bad boy” gloves with reinforced knuckle-pads, which he was filmed wearing. Raine was recorded threatening “I’ll bite your f***ing face off” and Prescott yelling “come on then, let’s f***ing have it”.

Judge Menary imposed criminal behaviour orders, banning the five men from entering Liverpool for five years, for their “planned hooliganism”.

He said: “There will, I have no doubt, be those on both sides of this political divide who are motivated by a desire to promote genuinely-held ideological beliefs – however repugnant or deeply offensive those views might appear to others.

“But I am equally sure that many of the people involved in the disorder on these occasions have made the journey or have involved themselves for no reason other than to behave like hooligans.”

Judge Menary jailed Calvert, 36, from Blackburn, for two years and Stamp, 34, from South Shields, who “came to Liverpool prepared for a fight” for 16 months.

He jailed Bell, 37, from Castleford, for two and a half years, telling him: “Your attitude towards other groups was deeply offensive, racist and you celebrated violent confrontation.”

Unemployed Raine, 41, from Sunderland, and doorman Prescott, 43, from Blackburn, each received 16 months in jail, suspended for two years.

Raine received a 25-day rehabilitation activity, 200 hours of unpaid work and a four-month home curfew, from 8pm to 6am. Prescott must complete a 30-day rehabilitation activity, 250 hours of unpaid work and pay £500 compensation.

Defendant, 20, reacted after counter-protester chucked firework during demonstration organised by Stoke-on-Trent Infidels

‘Abusive’ Britain First supporter David Davis ran at a police line and shoved an officer in the chest during a far-right protest.

The 20-year-old attended the Burslem protest which was organised by Stoke-on-Trent Infidels and featured Britain First leaders Paul Golding and Jayda Fransen.

But the father-of-one became angry when a counter-protester threw a firework towards the Swan Square crowd during the ‘rally against grooming’ demonstration.

Now Davis, of Leek New Road, Cobridge, has admitted assaulting PC Stuart Fellhouse.

North Staffordshire Justice Centre heard the rally took place on October 28. Police have previously stressed more arrests will be made following last month’s protest.

“Davis pushed the PC with both his hands in the middle of the chest before jumping back into the crowd. He was then put on the floor by another officer and arrested.

“The defendant accepted he should not have done it and said he pushed the officer because he wanted to get to the other crowd.”

Scott Ashdown, mitigating, told the court that the defendant has started an anger management course. He is already subject to a 12-month community order for a racially-motivated offence and has been working with the probation service.

PC Fellhouse was not injured in the incident and called for a community order to teach him about other beliefs and cultures.

The defendant was handed a 12-month community order.

Magistrate Vivian Patterson said: “It is to your credit that you have been complying with the probation service but you have found yourself in court for assaulting a police officer. You know it is wrong and we are making you subject to the community order so you do more work with the probation service.”

Davis must also pay £135 court costs, an £85 victim surcharge, a £50 fine, and £30 compensation to PC Fellhouse.

The leader of Britain First has been sentenced for assaulting a martial arts instructor.

Paul Golding, of Beeches Close, Penge, South London, attacked Dean Williams in a Maidstone nightclub during the early hours of July 9.

He admitted a charge of assault by beating when he appeared at Sevenoaks Magistrates’ Court on October 17.

And today (Tuesday) he was given a 120 day suspended prison sentence and ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid community work.

Golding was also told to pay £750 compensation to his victim, pay a £115 victim surcharge and another £85 in court costs.

Summing up, magistrate Alan Austen described it as “a really nasty and vicious assault in a public place”.

The court had previously heard Golding and Mr Williams, a mixed martial arts expert, had originally met in Derbyshire.

Golding later invited him to a self defence course in Erith and the pair, along with others, had gone out for a meal.

Later that evening Mr Williams said Golding “became very aggressive, drew his head back slightly and headbutted me in the face”.

The victim said he had suffered whiplash, chipped teeth and swelling and bruising to his nose.

“I attended my doctor’s surgery and am very shocked at the incident,” he added.

Defending, Golding’s lawyer said there was CCTV of the incident which showed there had been a degree provocation.

He said: “At the bar where they both were Mr Golding put his arm round the victim’s shoulder in a friendly, amicable way.

“The victim took exception to that and threw his arm off his shoulder.

“And Mr Golding walked away not just once, but twice.”

Golding, 35, is facing three charges of religiously aggravated harassment in relation to the trial of a gang of men who raped a teenager above a Ramsgate takeaway.

He is set for a three day trial next month, alongside deputy Britain First leader Jayda Fransen.
